Hello, Sorry for the delay in responding to your note. I have been crazy busy and have not had a chance to check on the planet. I joined BHP because I have such a love for the natural hair process that I created a line of products for the hair and skin. The line is called Naked Dread and is available at NakedDread.com. Whenever you get a chance, stop by the web store and take a look around. I sell retail and wholesale to salons and stores in the Philadelphia and NY area as well as to the individual representatives of the company. Hope your time here is fruitful, it is full of good conversation, ideas and all kind of hair stories.

I do feel like the black churches could step to the plate and do more for the communities. There are so many needs to be addressed in our very communities. Helping goes pass the church doors... look what we are up against...high crime rates, drug problems, gangs, "kids gone wild", pravelent Aid cases, failing educational systems, homeless, elderly assist, etc., just to name a few. There is so much work I believe the black churches all over, everywhere can possibly do as a whole to atleast stop a fraction of this madness....When I was a kid, I didn't suffer anywhere comparable to what some of these kids are suffering with today....heaven help us ALL.

I don't know about you ladies but it seems here in my city quite a few pastors of the large churches seem to have forgotten their roles (not to say this exempt some of the smaller ones as well). However, the problem I'm seeing with these larger church (pastor) here is that they seem to be more business structured and focused-maybe not all of them. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd attend a large church/memerbership and actually have to attend classes to become a member....Don't get me wrong I think being educated is a great thing, on the other hand I don't feel it should be mandatory to become a member. Yes, I faced this incident at one of the larger churches in my community and some of the blacks here could point that church out. I really was turned on to the word there...and then again....it just didn't click???

Another thing about some of the large memeberships I can't relate to is, NOT being able to talk with the primary pastor....what is it? Making appointments and then only to see an associate pastor, I don't knock associates but wouldn't it be nice to consult with the pastor of the church or just to personally have a chance to say hi and your sermon really touched me. This to me is outrageous, however, I'm noticing more and more people (that I know) to voice their opinions on this very same concern. I guess what it comes down to is if this is what a person is comfortable with...then don't knock it...I just know It made me very uncomfortable.

But with these larger churches, I just wonder how can these type pastors play the church role when... he seems to be too caught up in other affairs than to play his own role and be of constructive service to the people(his members). Guess that's why I'm sitting in a moderately small church most Sundays and thanking God for the chance to atleast shake my pastors hand or even have the chance for consultation if need be. I hope not all of the large churches are that way.

Sorry but thanks...just had to get that off my chest...I feel a bit better now

This is by: Bevel... But yes: I think blacks can step out there and go help out in the community more. Me being a teen most people would say teens 18 and older wouldnt think about things like that. I do I just do other things

What is/ are your fav Bible verses?

Or just ones that you love?

There are sooo many I love...

    There's

Proverbs 18:22 When a man finds a wife its a good thing and he recieves favour from the Lord.

These helped me during my exams last year:

John 16:24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy will be fullest possible.

    Mark 11:24
So I tell you that you have recieved the things you ask for in prayer and God will give them to you.

    Luke 18:27
God can do things that are not possible for people to do / Things are impossible for people are possible for God

What inspiring quotes do you love?

    Awesome thread!!
My very favorite is John 3:16~ For God so loved the world that he gave His Only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life!

    Other favorites:

Phillipians 4:13~ I can do all things through Christ that strengthen me!

Psalm 23~ The Lord is my shepard I shall not want.......

Phillipians 4:6 - "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

Romans 8:28~ For we know that all things work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."

I could go on and on, because I have many more but these are the just the first few that come to mind when asked my favorites. Thanks for the thread, dividir! We can keep it going.

Come n people tell us more!

    One of my favs:
    Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

I have more too, but this is one that I had to memorize when I was little.

Malachi 3:6-10 (King James Version) 6For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. 7Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return? 8Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

    2 Corinthians 10:5 (King James Version) 5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

    I have a bunch many more...lol...!!!

Romans 10:9~ That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

    I love this one!

I dont find it a problem really as long as they dont be like completely low. I do think it is a disgrace to see older men trying to wear them like that tho'... I find that it is a sign of wanting to feel young. Men out here now wear there pants lower than some of the older kids and that just bothers me. But I really cant judge what people do or what the wear, because people are people and they are what they want to be!... I dont have any kids! But I am a teenager<19>

Thought this would be interesting to share.....

Black Woman Cake...written by a Black Man
    (It's a Great Message)

    NEVER FORGET!

THERE WERE SPECIAL INGREDIENTS FROM GOD TO US.

    Subject : BLACK WOMAN CAKE
I'm making a black woman cake cause I'm hungry. And the sweet tooth I have only a sista can break the spell. Let me reach into my spice rack to see what I can get. To make a mix that will stick to my stomach you can bet.
    2 cups of intelligence
    1 cup of sugar brown
(Cause she's got to be sweet, mental, deep and sound)
Cinnamon is always good to accent the taste
A few cups of culture, so she's down for her race
(You see I won't bite into anything that's not conscious of its own, that's why I stick to chocolate and leave angel food alone)
I am adding butter cause she must be smooth
2 raisins for the dimples will also be cool
I must add eggs so she can reproduce
(Can't leave her h anging cause I like children too)
I think I'll add a little salt, to balance her out
And a dominant profile, to show she has clout
For a responsible woman, I'll throw in some yeast
(So she'll swell with juices, when I'm ready to feast)
I'll add 7 cups of courage and into the oven to bake
Turn it to 360 degrees, To balance out her mental state.

Now that it's done brothers, I won't share her wealth, but I'm sharing the recipe as I'm consuming this black woman all by myself.
Good Black Women are indeed all around us.
We pass them on the streets, in the malls, and in the hall at work. Most we can't see because we don't know what a good woman really looks like. She usually isn't flashy enough or rich enough to turn our heads. She might not wear a fur coat or push a Lexus. She might not have a "body by Fisher" or a face for " Ebony." But as you mature, you realize it's better to find someone who's got your back than someone who turns your head .
A Good Black Woman doesn't agree whole-heartedly with everything you say. She doesn't just tell you what you want to hear and do the opposite. She doesn't have to declare how sensitive, sweet, caring, sincere, (yada, yada, yada) she is (she won't have to...because it shows). She has her own opinions, and you may clash, but she doesn't have to degrade you to prove she's right. She evens admits at times to being wrong, especially if you are willing to do the same.
A Good Black Woman is not going to meet every item on your checklist. She is human with frailties & faults mixed in with all of her wonderful, sensual attributes. She needs your love & respect. She needs to feel that you don't have to catch her doing something wrong so you can declare "Aha I knew all along"
A Good Black Woman doesn't necessarily give you a huge Birthday or Valentine gift. She shows her love in the ways that are comfortable to her. Don't judge her by TV standards. No one is living that Fairy tale--for real.
BLACK WOMEN , we salute you, and thank you for whom you are, and all you've done.

Pass this along to some of the "Good Black Women" you know, and a few black men.

So what did you guys think?

I think It is a funny thing because when I get ready to curl my hair... I curl both sides the same. I only have problems because I can curl one side pretty and then the other side be all loose and I dont have tight curls. I dont understand. I wonder if it is the volume in my hair. You know?

Gas prices are horrible. It doesnt make any since how high they are. Something needs to happen because here in North Carolina they are stressing the fact that gas prices are going to be goin up to like $7.00. I wish I would

How much is gas prices where you are now? Our prices now are 4.13 <a gallon> I think it is a mess! And I feel something needs to be done.
