Disclaimer: follow this mixture and instruction at your own risk. I will not be liable for any occurances following this procedure.
This henna mixture is best for those who want to tone down the redness of the natural henna dye while the coffee extract promotes a longer hair life cycle when applied to the scalp for a long period of time.
Best used for:
Acidifying/Reducing pH/Sealing Cuticles/Reducing Hair Loss/Strengthening/Darkest Brown Color
Ingredients:
200g Henna (I use Reshma, but Jamila is great too)
16 oz. hot Coffee, double strength
2-3 tbsp of Grade A Honey
Tools:
Mixing Spoon
Plastic Bowl with Lid
Cellophane Wrap
Shampoo
Conditioner
Hair Sectioning Clips
Plastic or Latex Gloves
Newspaper or Paper Towels (for clean-up)
Mixing:
1. Pour henna in a plastic bowl.
2. Slowly add hot coffee.
3. Stir until a thick soufflé paste (or thick pudding) is made.
4. Seal with lid and set in a warm location.
5. Allow dye to release for one hour (optional).
Hair Prep: While dye is releasing
Wash hair with a sulfate or high pH shampoo, removing all oils from hair and scalp. Do not towel-dry. Do not condition.
Application:
6. Add honey, stir thoroughly.
7. Section wet hair with clips.
8. Put on gloves and apply henna slowly in sections to prevent flinging henna.
9. Smoosh henna through hair in a thick, muddy coating. Be sure to cover both top and underneath section and from roots to ends for the most complete application.
10. Repeat on all sections until complete.
11. Wrap hair with cellophane wrap, snugly.
12. Allow to process for two hours or overnight.
Removal:
13. Remove the cellophane and rinse hair under warm shower water.
14. Massage with hands until all the "mud" is loosened up.
15. Apply conditioner and massage (or comb through).
16. Repeat until all the henna is gone (this will take a few times).
17. Wash with shampoo or cleanser, focusing on the scalp.
18. Done!
