my hair is rough and dry and brittle

Hello all Im a male of 30 years old and I have been having some hair trouble for some years now. I had worn dread locks for about two years and what happened was my hair started to break and thin, the salon was using a black styling jell and then placing me under a dryer to let it harden to hold the locking style. After a time my hair began to break and I ended up cutting my dreads off, that was about 3 to 5 years ago. But what happened after I cut my hair off is that it grew back but it did not grow back the same ever. At first it started to fall out and I was ignorant to proper hair care because us men don’t really do too much to our hair like you ladies do, but my hair began to shed and it would grow back but it would grow back weaker and thinner than before, at the time I did not know what was happening.I always had strong thick hair and I never had to use conditioners and a hole lot of hair care products to keep it from breaking before, but ever since then it would grow dry thin and brittle and it would always break. So what happens is that even though it grows because it breaks every now and then it looks as though it doesn’t grow. It feels parched and even when I use hair conditioners on it, it still seems to be dry after a little while, and it is hard to keep it soft and moisturized. By the end of the day it’s dry and if I play in it to rough I will start to see breaking strands. I have used protein conditioners to try and correct it but that stuff seems to make my hair more hard and stiff and the same goes for leave in conditioners. I have also tried hair oils and it seems as though it just makes my hair look shiny but its still dry to the touch and crunchy feeling, I absolutely hate it and cant seem to find a solution to my hair problem, and this has been years my hair has been growing in this fashion. My hair is kind of straight and curly at some parts, by looking at it you cant tell I have a problem with it because I use product like hair lotions to try and keep it moisturized but to me it just sits on my hair and that’s really it, it seems as though all of the hair care products just sit on the hair to mask the appearance of unhealthy hair. Like I said looking at it, it looks fine but to the touch it feels rough and dry not soft and moist. I am a male and cant understand why im have this problem, I have cut my hair so many times to try and correct the problem but it seems like my hair just grows thin dry and brittle and all I do is try to mask it with hair care products! Can anyone tell me a simple a hair car regimen to get my hair back to a moisturized state cause im just about fed up and tired of spending money on a bunch of hair care products that seem to work for a few days and stop? Right now I have coconut oil the pure organic form, I also have pure jojoba oil and I have aphogee reconstructor. I also have a glycerin moisturizer and I also have bbs castor oil hair lotion that I use now but it seems like I need a lot of it in order to feel some kind of softness out of my hair. Does any one have any suggestions on my problem and what I should or should not be doing that’s prolonging my bad hair?
