Healthy essentials from Dollar Tree- may be discontinued- hard to find, White Rain coconut and green apple. I hate stearalkonium chloride, so no VO5 for me, though they look good, and Suave just has the lamest ingredients- they used to be good, then switched to crappy stuff - so White Rain rox!

Never co-washed before but I am thinking of trying herbal essence long term relationship - on my SHORT, relaxed hair. Is that silly?

And for you pro-s out there, what is your co-wash routine? Do you wet your air and put it on in the shower? Or on dry hair? What do you do afterwards? What about oils - should I pre-treat? Do I need to seal, or just add a moisturizer?

Yes, I am a brand-spanking newbie to this hair thing.

Yes, I am a brand-spanking newbie to this hair thing.

You can use any cheapy conditioner for co-washing. Some use HE, VO5 White Rain, Suave etc etc You will just have to experiment to see what your hair likes and what makes your hair feel soft, moisturized and clean at the same time.

This is what I do when I use to co-wash, section my hair in four as I have lots of hair, I this to make washing easier and I can get through my hair and to my scalp easier. I wet/saturate each section one at a time with water then; I pour a decent amount of my cheap conditioner of choice and run through my hair. I sometimes repeat this two times then rinse.

Unto oils, if you wish you can do an oil rinse after your co-wash and then apply your DC over it and then DC. It will leave your hair feeling soft and pliable. Or you can add it into your DC and whip until it is completely blend it and apply to your hair that way and then proceed to DC.

In regards to sealing, this when you have finished washing DC. You will then use either a creamy leave-in or a water base leave-in or moisturizer. Apply throughout hair and then use an oil of your choice to seal this moisture in. This helps to keep the hair soft, manageable and prevent breakage and splitting that may occur form style etc.

Also you will need to sleep with a silk scarf / bonnet to protect your hair and prevent it from drying out from your cotton pillow case. HTH:).

I don't even cowash anymore lmao. I still love Suave Professionals Shea & Almond though.

Same here hun, co-wash are not doing it anymore for my hair, I did it and had to end up shampooing, my hair is waaay to thick for co-wash to do anything for it. I shampoo every wash now, either straight shampoo or diluted shampoo.

I am also into clays / mud wash, they detox the hair well, from all the synthetics that are in the none natural products ;).

Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner. Its crack in a bottle and I use it on my relaxed hair which left it super-soft. I'm not convinced by smells as I can do without fragrance and it has minimal chemicals (I think two) and they are just thickners and binders that allow the oils and butter stay together in water.

^^^ Not every product works the same for everybody there are some things my hair absolutely despises like Cantu Shea Butter but everyone else raves about it.

sadly none of these cheapies worked for me. I have a box full now I`m wondering what to do with. the only successful cowash I ever had was with Aussie 3 min miracle mixed w/ a little olive oil. I may try that again.

PurplePeony, LOL, that video had me cracking up! YouTube is the best! I CO-wash, but I also make my own shampoo too. I can't answer, because I don't strictly co-wash only. I do say NO to soap on the body though. Soap is the reason why people have odors in private places, along with what they are putting in their body. When you use soap in private places, you are stripping the body of the natural pH balance. I'm a licensed cosmetologists too, and truthfully you don't need suds to get the hair clean. There are natural options right in your kitchen. I think maybe one should have an open mind. What they teach in cosmetology school is not healthy for our hair. It is designed to keep people shelling out dollars and coming back for products that are the cause of the hair breakage in the first place, IMHO.

I use TRESemme and Garnier. It is good cleaning that results in softer and shinier locks.

My favorite is VO5 moisture milks conditioner! It use to be strawberries and cream but I switched to the shea butter formula. However, I can't seem to find the shea butter one anymore? The shea butter formula was moisturizing and thicker.
