Hi! I am new here and glad i am joining. I am going to transition and im really a bit nervous as i have no clue what my hair will look like, but im really tired of relaxers, and the damage it's doing to my hair. I am going to a salon that will help me work with my transition, but i am trying to figure out how to start. I haven't had a relaxer in about 7 weeks (not long at all) but im very done with them. I hope to make it through the tranisition and im excited to see my "real hair texture". :D

Hello,

I'm new to the site and am currently beginning the transitioning process -- been relaxer-free for about six weeks now.

I've been watching and reading everything I can get my hands on to help me during this lifelong commitment, but I'm still having some issues. Hopefully I can learn a thing or two here and have my many questions answered. My decision to skip out on relaxers started when I discovered an old picture of my original thick, long mane as a child before it was relaxed. After some research, talking to my cousin (who has been natural for years), and succumbing to curiosity; I finally caved in. I'm tired of losing two and a half hours of my time to sitting under JUST a dryer, and half my scalp to the damaging chemicals put in every month. Not to mention every time I go to see a hair stylist, they want to increase the prices as my hair gets longer.

Besides all that, I have never been one to take care of my own hair. My mother did everything for me, and when I was too old to maneuver around, she began taking me to professionals. I'd rather have some pride in myself that my thick hair can be managed by me on my own time by my own hands.

Hello black people.

I just stopped by to introduce myself. I decided on my name because I'm muscular and kind of clumsy (hehe) and I'm kind of a nerd (even though I don't look like one) I also like to read comic books in my spare time. A good replacement for TV since the idiot box just keeps on getting worse and worse.

Hi everyone, I joined here a few weeks ago but just introducing myself. Late last year I lost a lot of hair due to postpartum hair loss and that prompted me to start my healthy hair care research and I found this site along the way.
Last week I cut my hair to a TWA because of very uneven length (areas where I lost hair had only new growth). Ultimately I plan to relax my hair, but will grow it out first.

Hello ladies,
I'm new just joined yesterday I'm glad I did by the way! I have been natural a little of a year (the struggle). I'm her to get my hair healthy and longer. My problem is once my hair gets about an inch or two above bra strap length it doesn't seem to grow any more then I try to flat iron as less as possible so if any growth I can't really tell. I loved how fast my hair grew back but nothing more after that and its hard to keep moisturized. Any HELP would be gladly appreciated thanks in advance ladies!

Hello Lovely Ladies, Although, I've been a member since 2010, I haven't been as active as some are. I've decided to try natural and haven't had a perm since Oct 2012. Some days I struggle with wanting to perm again, as I listen to some of the struggles that some have with their hair journey. There doesn't seem to be a lot you can do with your hair as you journey. I don't do braids, so I do the protective style (ball). I really enjoy reading the posts. It does give me some hope, but it also seems difficult, I guess dependent on your hair texture. At this time, I'm not sure what my texture is other than a somewhat loose wave pattern. I will do my best to hang in there. Thanks

Hello Community,
I am owner of Juniques MultiCultural Connections.
I also am an independent consultant with Micore Intl.
That relationship brought to this site.
I am in the process of learning about the hair industry, the good and the
questionable.

The best source is to go the people who are involved. such as this community.

As I learn more about this hair industry, I am really gaining an appreciation for Micore Intl entry into this very lucrative ( and sometimes controversial) business.

I am recognizing what an awesome position Micore Intl consultants are gaining.

This industry has been "locked out" to any other group except the one.

Micore Intl is poised to change that.

I will be sharing information about the hair industry and Micore Intl
definitely appreciate great discussions.

So, I thank you, for having this vibrant community, that I can share with and learn.

Check out Micore Intl, where you can start your own hair business for $19.95

Hello everyone,
So I want to start a healthy hair journey that will allow my hair to grow and become thicker. I thought coming to this website who provide me with some tips and advice on how to care for my hair the right way. I am currently relaxed and would like to transition to natural and then to texlax. I really don't want to be natural because my natural here is very thick and course and to much for me to handle but with a texlax it would be more managable and still have texture to my hair (which I love). My reason for going natural is because I do want a fresh start. But while I'm natural I plan on wearing weaves but yet still keeping a SIMPLE hair regimen. So this is where this site comes in. I don't know what to have as my regimen for my natural hair and what products to use. Also I DO NOT want to do a big chop. So please I'm asking for some advice and incite on my decision on what is really best. So thank you and let the journey begin. :)

Hi, I am a newbie here as you might see I just joined after reading a lot of information and enjoying what I read thus far. I am 54 with relaxed hair have thought about going natural however not just quite there, I relax my hair at the salon about every 12-13 weeks and trying to stretch longer. I decided to do a healthy hair growth journey and was reading a blog that suggested this page to her readers, glad she did. I am not too sure about all this since I just decided this about two weeks ago and getting my hair relaxed and noticed a thinning beginning in the front and mid- top of my hair, not sure my hair type however it is fine and don't take much to straighten it. Will be reading others journey and figuring out just how to do what for now have only washed my hair using garner fructis volume products along with organix argan oil products as well, okay that seems like enough information at the time. Thanks for reading and will be looking forward to all the information that will help me on this journey. I too have many questions will read through and hopefully someone has already asked.

Hello everyone. This is my very first time here. I have been searching for a black hair site. I rock a relaxed short cut, short on the sides and back with hair on the top. I can never seem to get my hair to lay as straight on the stylist. It always has a wave to it. And I work out five days a week but was told that I should only wash my hair once a week. With the amount of sweat I produce I need more than that. Help!!

Hey!
I'm new to BHP and the reason I joined is because my natural community at home sucks! lol

I did my first big chop in September of 2010 and I hated my hair because I basically didn't know what I was doing. I did ABSOLUTELY NO research and my family and friends would just comment on how ugly my hair was. Even though I rec A LOT of negativity about my hair I let my hair grow out naturally for about 9 months before putting a texturizer in it (BIG MISTAKE). My hair was an absolute mess, some parts were straight other parts was still kinky. Ugh. By that time I started to get weaves and wearing my hair flat ironed. BTW I loved my hair when it was flat ironed. It was so thick and the length was AMAZING but I missed rocking my fro.

In January 2012 I went back to the creamy crack and it was cool for a minute but I just felt like something was missing.
In April 2012 I received a scholarship for me to study abroad and at that I time I knew I had to cut my hair off again. I didnt want my hair to stop me from enjoying my time. I didnt want it to limit me from doing things I really wanted to do, such as going swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. I also didnt want to deal with doing my hair lol. I came back to the states and continued to wear my red fade. Now I LOOOOOVED my fade. it made me stand out and really showed off my features and bone structure. I thought I was the S**t but that came to an end in January, 2013.

So now I am letting my hair grow back and I must say how happy I am. I love my fro. I take the time out to care for it and make sure its healthy. Sometimes I do wish it just hurry up and grow but for now I am very pleased. I do need some advice on how to style. I think right now there's nothing I can do to it. It's about an inch and 1/4. I just started taking hairfinity vitimins with a b-complex. I'm working out, eating right and drinking tons of water so hopefully I can achieve at least 6-8 inches by the fall.

I just joined a few minutes ago since I'm growing out my hair and I'm always interested in finding hair care tips and whatnots. :)

So a bit about me. I'm Emmelia (pronounced Amelia). I'm biracial--dad is black, mom is white--and my hair is definitely more like Dad's. I'm finally starting to listen to mom when she says my hair needs oil to keep it moisturized! I went natural back in November. After I quit my fast food job I straightened and realized how boring I look with straight hair, so I washed it out a couple days later. Currently I work part time in a discount department store and I go to college part time. I'm hoping to get back into belly dance classes soon.

Two weeks ago I started following the Curly Girl method. I wash once a week with Curl Care by Dr Miracle sulfate free shampoo. Every other day I Co wash with VO5 Moisture Milks conditioner and follow up with a leave in conditioner after a few minutes. I also use a wide toothed comb to detangle. At night I wrap my hair in a satin bonnet. Hopefully this will help my hair growth process since I don't think I needed to do the big chop. (I only relaxed once in my life, but I flat ironed a few times a month and dyed every now and again.) Already going natural has made me more confident in myself and I feel more beautiful when I'm rocking my natural curls.

Heyyyy, I'm Lola.
Natural since birth but only really made an active movement about taking care of it 09-11 then it reached APL march '12 and I kind of 'forgot' about it and it's stayed this length since....
Trying to get to at least BSL by the end of the year. I'm only 3" away i think...

It sounds like I'm super focused about length only because my hair is super nice to me and healthy with minimal amounts of effort.

__________________

Okay I thought my hair had stayed this length but I just blow dried my hair and it's 1" away from BSL!!!! I guess I just need to be patient! I'll keep up with what I am doing and check in december =)

Hi everyone

I've been lurking for a little over a year maybe. I was so stressed with working full-time and working on an MBA that I felt I didn't have much to add to discussions. However, I enjoyed reading the various thoughts and opinions found on the forum. :) Well, I've finally graduated!! :D Now I have more time to not only read the forum, but actively participate! :)

Welcome to BHP! :)
If u have any questions or concerns we`ll be happy to help!

My name is Sarina aka wontbehappynappy! I am addicted to the "creamy crack" I am embarking on a healthy relaxed hair journey. I just got my first relaxer after 7 months of wearing braids. My hair grew ALOT and I was both happy and inspired to have healthy long hair again. I had worn my hair in a short pixie for about 6 years. I got braids to get me through the awkward in between stage of hair growth. My hair is currently neck length. My ultimate goal is to have bra strap length hair. I have been air drying my hair for a few years now. and I try not to flat iron my hair too much. After watching a few hair journeys on YouTube last night, I decided that I wanted healthy, long relaxed hair. I don't really I have a regimen yet. To start my journey, I gave myself a hot oil treatment this morning using EVOO, grapeseed oil and oregano oil (wild marjoram) followed by a shampoo using Motions conditioning shampoo and a deep conditioner. I then wrapped my hair and tied it up to air dry. I also took 2 Biotin and drank nothing but water.

I have read the regimen builder forum and I still don't know where to start...HELP LOL.

I look forward to all the wisdom you ladies have to share to help me reach my goal. Thank you for having me!!!

Hey there,

NovaBlue here! Been on a HHJ since 2008, I'm currently BSL transitioning without a big chop. Last relaxer was in March this year. It's tough going but I'm trying to stay strong! :scared:

I'm hoping to find solidarity in my fellow transitioning sisters and can share my experiences growing relaxed hair long with what I learnt over the years.

Glad to be here! :)

Hi

This is artsyklaire and I am 21 months (1 year and 9 months) post relaxer and 11 months post BC. It was kind of traumatizing (not before or during) after I BC. I totally regretted it and kind of gave up. I didn’t really care for my hair. I of course moisturized and used like one oil but I didn’t pay attention to it. It still grew and somehow remains healthy but now 11 months later I have decided to focus on my hair and see how long I could get it. Pre-BC I was waist length and now post BC I want to be armpit length curly. If it grew without me caring for it, just imagine how it would be if I did care.

Hi all my name is Mike. I will always be honest. I am an older white guy. I am the maker/formulator of Hair Formula 37 hair vitamins for faster hair growth. I am not here to spam or self-promote (I may a little bit only because it is a "baby") :) I have always admired this site and the community spirit. I always felt a bit odd joining because I'm not female, honest have hair that I shampoo rinse and go, I am not African American...I am as white as they come. lol I do feel out place for that reason but I truly have a passion for hair. I studied chemistry in college and then worked for Nexxus Products and worked with Jheri Redding (anyone as old as me that remembers him?) and his son Steve. Jherri was a strange old man but sharp as a tack but when it came to hair structure and hair chemistry he man knew his stuff.

I job was to travel around teach hair structure (DNA/RNA Helix structures…the whole bit). It was fun, I feel in love with hair very quickly. In changed companies after 13 years to Paul Mitchell. I did a very similar job there. I worked with chemists and tried my best to really listen and understand problems and think of the best solutions. Around 1994ish the whole internet came into being and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I taught myself web design and my first websites were “practice” sites where I basically taught the classes I had been giving. I realized (and keep in mind this was around 1996) that there was no a good hair vitamin and the market. I decided to formula my own. It nearly bankrupted me to buy the inventory but I am sure glad I did.

I am solely here to listen, learn, and add my two cents if anyone has and questions. I look forward to meeting everyone and will do my best to help all I can. It is a sincere pleasure to belong to your group. Thank you for having me.

All the best,

Mike Trobee

Hello everyone . I am in the planning process of my hair care regimen. I have ordered all these products and a list of my hair care regimen please tell me what you think and if I should change anything. I have very thin weak damaged ASL (almost shoulder length) hair from perming it. Im not trying to go natural so I just want to rebuild my hair strength and thickness

Products
-Moisturizer: Olive Oil Root Stimulator+ EVOO (Everyday)
-Shampoo: Aphogee Shampoo (1/Week)
-Proteine Treatment: Aphogee 2 step protein treatment (1/10week)
-I may do a weaker protein treatment in between if needed
-Deep Conditioner: Silk Elements Mega Silk Moisturizer(2/week)
-Leave in conditioner: Aphogee Green Tea Vitamin (Everyday)
-Heat Protectant: Aussie heat protectant (When needed)

My hair is very thin right now so Im having trouble protective styling my hair and making it look right any ideas?? I also have been wearing my hair in clip ins which I am considering changing to maybe a half wig but I have never used them. Also I have not had a trim in god knows how long . would you suggest u get a trim or try to rebuild my hair first?? and any tips on doing it at home im a broke college student so saving money is a must !

please comment with any tips or ideas. I need all the help I can get

What products are you using on your hair, that can be the reason your hair feels heavy...

I have been natural for about 6 years and recently put in a texturizer (Shortlooks about a week ago). I keep my hair in a TWA and I color it.

Reintro: Been away for a while (work, stress, health) and my hair has taken a backseat and a toll in it all. I'm still natural although I did cut it down to about 3" all over this past September as it was the last thing I wanted to deal with; this was a big concession as I really wanted to take the clippers to it. I immediately missed being able to bun, but given the damage encountered, a fresh start was needed. I need to redefine my regimen as what used to work is no longer the case; what better place to do it than here where I learned so much in the start of my journey and had the support of so many wonderful people. Here's to another adventure in this HHJ!

I'd like to learn how to style it in quick & easy ways for the absolutely lame, that is myself.

Hello, newbie here I thought it be a good idea to join a hair forum since I'm transitioning to natural. I'm just about there only a couple inches away but I didn't have the heart to do a big chop so I did it slowly only took about 3 or 4 months so not too bad. My hair length is just above my shoulders my hair length goal is to my back before I went natural it was that length so I know it possible. I use to have a curl perm but now my hair is stronger than ever and I love it!

Can't wait to me you all!

Hello I'm Bev from Florida.

Just starting my journey. My hair needs alot of help. Lots of breakage and shedding and very dry. Figure out that I was over-processing my hair. I would relaxed my hair every 6 to 7 weeks. Now I am going to try to stretch it out longer. Learning alot already. Just did a deep conditioned today which was way overdue. I look forward to learning more.

Hi, I'm Roos, 25 and I live in The Netherlands. I have had natural hair for most of my life. I have taught myself how to take care of my hair since my mother has always relaxed her hair and my grandmother is a descendant from the Caquetio Indians and has the most beautiful straight hair. So both of them don't know what to do with my black hair. You guys inspire me so I've come here to learn how to look as beautiful as you do.

Hello everyone!

I'm Rebecca and I'm new here. I mainly joined because I enlisted in the army and I need ideas on what to do with my hair.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this. I'm having a little trouble navigating through the site.

Actually, if anyone could help out, I'm looking for someone who can do interlock weaving/tree braiding in the NJ/NY area. I'm going to basic training and do not want to wear individual braids. Thanks so much.

I wouldn't refer to myself as being new, however, I've been away so long (last post was 2010) it feels like I am. Life happened as to why I've been away so long. I lurked a little on Friday and I recognized a lot of the names from 4 years ago.

During the last 4 years I had a son to graduate from HS and start college, I chopped off all of my hair for the "Halle Berry" look only to grow it back the following year, and I turned 40 (this year). I am currently 20 weeks post relaxer and I am debating about whether I should relax it or chop it all off for a TWA. Too many decisions, but I'm glad to be back.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the site. Also new to going natural. I plan on transitioning. Now that I've decided to go natural. NOW WHAT?
I have been just looking around reading and getting some information on products and such. My last relaxer was July 2014. My hair is still pretty straight, only about 1/4 inch of new growth.
